From July 17 to 20, 2024, Shenzhen hosted two major events: the Inaugural Academic Symposium of the ASEAN Sub-Committee of the Chinese Association of Asia-Pacific Studies and China-ASEAN Cooperation under Great Power Competition (co-organized by Shenzhen University and the ASEAN Sub-Committee), and the Network of East Asian Think Tanks Working Group Meeting on East Asian Regional Supply Chain Connectivity (co-hosted by Shenzhen University and the China Foreign Affairs University).

During the symposium, the ASEAN Sub-Committee of the Chinese Association of Asia-Pacific Studies was officially inaugurated, with its secretariat established at the Greater Bay Area-ASEAN Research Center at Shenzhen University. Additionally, the China-ASEAN Think Tanks Network Industrial Cooperation Base and the Guangdong Provincial Decision-Making Consulting Base-Shenzhen University Greater Bay Area-ASEAN Research Center were also unveiled.

Former Vice Minister of Commerce, Chen Jian, and NPC Foreign Affairs Committee member and CASS academician, Xing Guangcheng, delivered keynote speeches. Other notable attendees included: Wang Liyong, Director of the China Center for Contemporary World Studies, International Department, Central Committee of CPC; Xu Jing, Counselor from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of Asian Affairs; Cao Saixian, Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government; Jin Xu, President of the China Association of International Trade; He Fangjun, Deputy Inspector, Guangdong Social Sciences Association; Sun Huaizhong, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government; and Yuan Fuyong, Deputy Director of the Qianhai Administration.
Representing the hosts, Shenzhen University’s Vice Party Secretary, Wu Baoshui; China Foreign Affairs University’s Vice President, Gao Fei; and Shenzhen University’s Vice President, Li Yonghua, welcomed the participants. More than 100 experts and scholars attended the event.
Following the opening speeches, the unveiling ceremony and keynote addresses, prominent scholars delivered thematic presentations. These included Wei Wei, Song Yaoming, Fan Zuojun, Sang Baichuan, Zhang Zhenjiang, Chen Zhirui, Lu Guangsheng, Zhang Yuanpeng, Liu Hongzhong, Zhuang Rui, Song Guoyou, Fan Hongwei, Zhang Hongxia, Li Hao, Niu Junkai, Guo Yanjun, Zheng Xianwu, Zhang Yun, and Wei Hao. Sessions were moderated by Wang Lizong, Liu Changming, Wang Yuzhu, and Li Shufei. The attendees engaged in in-depth exchanges and lively discussions on key issues, expressing optimism that Shenzhen’s participation, alongside Shenzhen University’s involvement, would elevate China-ASEAN cooperation and ASEAN research to new heights.
