On May 18, 2025, the inaugural “China Social Work Cup” National University Student Social Service Practice Skills Competition, guided by the China Association for Social Work Education and hosted by the China Social Work Development Foundation and the National Smart Social Work Industry-Education Integration Community, successfully concluded. The competition attracted 3,659 students from 763 teams across 263 institutions, including Fudan University, Renmin University of China, and Shanghai University. The MSW graduate team from Shenzhen University’s School of Government, guided by Professor Tang Yong, won the national second prize in the graduate track with outstanding performance.

The competition included graduate, undergraduate, and vocational tracks, divided into three stages: preliminary, semifinal, and final rounds. The preliminary round used anonymous expert reviews of practical case submissions, with the top 50 teams in the graduate track advancing to the semifinals. The semifinal round involved submitting videos with accompanying texts, with the top 16 practical cases in the graduate track advancing to the finals.

From May 16–18, the inaugural graduate track finals were held at the China Institute of Industrial Relations in Beijing, with the final team from our School consisting of three core members from the 2023 MSW cohort: Wu Shuangbei, You Jiayi, and Ding Jiaxiang. At the finals, Wu Shuangbei, You Jiayi, and Ding Jiaxiang, under strict conditions of anonymity, no advisor guidance, no internet access, and no paper materials, used two laptops provided by the organizers to complete a high-quality service plan design and presentation PPT within 210 minutes, relying on their solid professional skills and seamless teamwork. Their innovative service framework design and standardized professional process presentation earned recognition and high praise from the judging panel.

The competition used a composite scoring method, with preliminary and semifinal scores accounting for 40% and final scores for 60%, emphasizing both the completeness of practical cases and on-site operational skills. Ultimately, the Shenzhen University team, leveraging thorough preparation in the preliminary stage and professional performance in the finals, secured the second prize, with Professor Tang Yong receiving the “Second Prize Advisor” title. This achievement fully demonstrates the solid professional competence and practical skills of our School’s faculty and students in social services.

Since its establishment in 2015, the MSW program at Shenzhen University’s School of Government has prioritized enhancing the quality of graduate talent cultivation, consistently adhering to a “practice-oriented, innovation-driven” educational approach. In the future, it will continue to deepen industry-education integration to cultivate more interdisciplinary social work professionals with both passion and practical skills.
