On July 25, 2025, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Evaluation Studies announced the AMI Think Tank List for the China Think Tank Comprehensive Evaluation Project (2025). Our School’s Shenzhen University Institute of Global Mega-City Governance and Shenzhen University Institute for Emerging Industries Development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area were selected.
Launched in 2016 by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Evaluation Studies, the China Think Tank Comprehensive Evaluation Project conducts evaluations every four years, serving as a highly authoritative and influential national think tank assessment activity. The project aims to establish a scientific and objective evaluation system, selecting and promoting outstanding think tanks with strong comprehensive capabilities, distinct professional characteristics, and significant policy influence, to advance the high-quality development of new-type think tanks with Chinese characteristics. This round of think tank selection began in January 2025, attracting nearly 1,000 applications, with 558 think tanks selected.
Institute Introduction:
Established in September 2022, the Shenzhen University Institute of Global Mega-City Governance was renamed from the Shenzhen University Institute of Urban Governance, a relatively independent research entity founded in September 2016, making it one of the earliest research institutions in China dedicated to global mega-city governance. In 2022, the Institute was selected as a Guangdong Social Science Popularization Base; in August 2023, it settled in Qianhai as a new-type think tank with Chinese characteristics, and in October 2023, it was named a Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences in Shenzhen; in 2024, it was included in the China Think Tank Index (CTTI) Source Think Tanks.
Established in December 2022, the Shenzhen University Institute for Emerging Industries Development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is the first think tank in the Greater Bay Area focused on emerging industries. Rooted in the Greater Bay Area and the Pioneering Demonstration Zone of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, it addresses cutting-edge issues in global emerging industries, conducting high-quality research on major policy issues in fields such as new energy and materials, modern biomedicine, high-end equipment manufacturing, and next-generation information technology, achieving significant results in policy consultation, theoretical innovation, public opinion guidance, social services, and Hong Kong-Macao exchanges. In August 2024, it was approved as a Characteristic New-Type Think Tank of Guangdong Higher Education Institutions. In February 2025, it was selected as a member of the Greater Bay Area Development Business Roundtable.
