On the morning of April 13th, organized by the School of Civil and Transportation Engineering, the 19th session of the "Famous Teachers into High Schools" program of Shenzhen University made its way to Zhaoqing High School. The event featured a lecture titled "Growing up in the Practice of Development in China—The Development of Social Sciences in a Period of Great Change and High School Students' Life Planning" delivered by Huang Bin Huan, the Vice Dean of the School of Government.
During the lecture, Vice Dean Huang, aligning with the mission and positioning of Shenzhen's "Dual Zones Development," discussed the trends in the development of social sciences during this period of significant changes. He guided the students to contemplate the connections between individual growth and national development in contemporary society. China currently faces tremendous developmental challenges but also harbors great opportunities. In this complex scenario, there is a need to advance science and technology rapidly and address issues related to social development and governance. Considering the intense period of social transformation we are in; how high school students can align their personal growth with national development is a crucial question that each student needs to address.
Vice Dean Huang moved from stories of notable scholars to the practical experiences of ordinary students and frontline workers in social sciences, creating vivid images that illustrate what social sciences can achieve during this transformative period. He addressed the fundamental questions of high school students' life planning corresponding to different historical periods. Additionally, he highlighted exemplary cases of Shenzhen University students engaging in social science practice and research, encouraging the students to set their aspirations early, plan for their future, and plant the seeds of hope for their dreams, ultimately contributing to the building of Shenzhen and China. The lecture, lasting over an hour, was delivered with Vice Dean Huang's characteristic humor and thought-provoking themes, deeply engaging and benefiting all the teachers and students present.
