To implement President Xi Jinping’s important directives from his Guangdong visit and align with the provincial “1310” strategy to support the “High-Quality Development Project for Counties, Towns, and Villages”, the Communist Youth League of Guangdong, in collaboration with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, held the 2nd Guangdong University Students’ Rural Governance Survey Competition. The finals took place in Guangzhou on October 13.

As the only team recommended by Shenzhen University, the Zuoshu Youjian Practice Team from the School of Government stood out among nearly 600 competing teams, winning the First Prize at the 2nd Guangdong Rural Governance Survey Competition—a recognition rate of approximately 4%. Guided by Associate Professor Geng Xu, Party Branch Secretary of the Political Energy Branch, and Associate Professor Liu Huayun from the School of Marxism, the team comprised graduate student Zhang Lina (Public Administration) and undergraduate students Zhang Yu, Li Qihua, Yang Anqi, Chen Xuan, Xie Sishan, Huang Yinqi, Peng Zhewen, and Guo Xiang (Public Administration and Sociology). Based on their summer field research, the team produced the competition report How to Integrate the “Three Governances”? Dilemmas and Strategies in Building Mechanisms for Resolving Grassroots Conflicts in Rural Areas—A Practical Study Based on Longmu Town, Longchuan County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province. This achievement highlights the school’s commitment to fostering the “Zuoshu Youjian” (Left Book, Right Sword) benchmark of excellence. Beyond building a robust knowledge system, the school enhances students’ ability to address real-world challenges through training in survey methods and practical platforms, providing strong talent and intellectual support for building a modern socialist country.

In August 2024, with strong support from the Party Committee of the School of Government and the Shenzhen University Communist Youth League Committee, the Political Energy Branch (Public Administration Department Faculty) and the Public Administration Department formed the Zuoshu Youjian Practice Team. The team conducted fieldwork in Longmu Town, Longchuan County, Heyuan City. Through on-site surveys and in-depth interviews, they gained insights into the development of China’s “Three Governances Integration” model for rural governance, yielding tangible outcomes: 1. Produced a survey report on the “1+6+N” working system in Longmu Town, offering recommendations for building a grassroots “Three Governances Integration” system in Heyuan City. 2. Conducted two legal education activities using innovative methods like scenario simulations, trivia quizzes, and door-to-door outreach. 3. Participated in the “Colorful Villages, Writing New Chapters” series, showcasing Longmu Town’s rural culture and features. The team’s efforts were covered by national outlet Xinhua, provincial outlet Nanfang+, municipal outlet Jingbao, and campus outlet SZU Youth, and they participated in the Outstanding Project Showcase for Guangdong University Students’ “High-Quality Development Project for 100 Counties, 1,000 Towns, and 10,000 Villages” Task Force, co-hosted by the Communist Youth League of Guangdong and Nanfang+. Every branch and leaf matters. The Zuoshu Youjian Practice Team exemplified the School of Government students’ dedication to society, proactive responsibility, and professional skills in identifying, analyzing, and solving problems. Moving forward, the school will continue guiding students to engage in rural governance practices, fostering a deep sense of patriotism and leveraging youthful wisdom and energy to write new chapters in rural revitalization. This effort will contribute to building a key hub for developing new quality productive forces, advancing Guangdong’s high-quality development, and actively participating in Chinese-style modernization.
